Bharata Natyam for all ages

Anjali feels honored to teach, perform, and contribute to the evolution of this Classical dance form, which originated in the temples of South India. A desciple of Smt. Viji Prakash, Anjali passes on the Tanjore style of Bharata Natyam, from the lineage of Natuvuanaar Kuppiah Pillai, founder of the Sri Raja Rajeshwari Bharata Natya Kala Mandir in Mumbai, where Smt. Viji studied with her Guru, Kalyanasundaram.

Born and raised in the U.S, Anjali's approach to teaching is grounded in traditional roots but also informed by her extensive study of Yoga, Modern Dance, and other Mind-Body centering techniques, which she integrates into her classes and workshops.

Bharata Natyam: Approaches to Abhinaya: An Eastern approach to theatre and dance. Explore how theatre and dance come together in the most popular Classical dance of India - Bharata Natyam. In this workshop, students will learn how rhythm, coordination, and gestures combine with music to form meaning. The first half of the workshop will focus on pure movement and spatial dynamics using the body while the second half will involve the students working in small groups to interpret lines of poetry using their faces, emotions, and hand gestures of Bharata Natyam.
